Recognition

The difference we make for our customers, suppliers, employees and communities is recognised by independent bodies.

  • Architecture with Energy

    In 2015, the Biedronka store in Bydgoszcz was awarded the Architecture with Energy Prize in the “Public Building” category, which selects the most energy-efficient buildings. The initiative is led by the regional government of Cujavia-Pomerania and the Association of Polish Architects.

  • BEST QUALITY EMPLOYER

    Biedronka was named the Best Quality Employer 2021 by the Central National Certification Office. Its in-house chatbot was also distinguished for its innovative nature in the category “Modern HR Technologies” of the competition held by the newspaper Puls Biznesu.

  • BLOOMBERG GENDER-EQUALITY INDEX

    Since 2021 the Group has been included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index and is the only Portuguese company listed in its sector. This index assesses over 100 indicators about the disclosure of information and gender equality performance.

  • CDP CLIMATE, CDP WATER AND CDP FORESTS

    In 2022, we were the highest rated food retailer in the world by the CDP. We received an A (highest score) for our performance in the “Combating climate change” and “Managing water as a critical resource” programmes, and an A- (Leadership level) for our management of commodities associated with deforestation risk (palm oil, soy, beef and paper/wood). CDP’s 2022 assessment covered more than 18,700 companies worldwide, representing half of the global market capitalisation.

  • MOST ATTRACTIVE EMPLOYER IN PORTUGAL – RETAIL

    Students attending Economics and Management degrees recognised us as Portugal’s Most Attractive Employer in the retail sector in 2020 and 2021, following a survey conducted annually by Universum, an employer branding company that interviewed over 11,000 students from 40 Portuguese universities.

  • INCLUSIVE EMPLOYER

    In 2021, JMH and Recheio (two of the Group’s companies in Portugal) were distinguished as an Inclusive Employer by the Portuguese Employment and Professional Training Institute. Labour market inclusion programmes, and the adaptation of both infrastructures and internal communication tools to ensure they are accessible to all are among the initiatives valued.

  • EURONEXT VIGEO-EIRIS INDICES

    Since June 2020, we have been listed on the Euronext Eurozone ESG Large 80 Index, which includes the Euronext listed companies that better adapt their businesses to the energy transition, supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy and reducing climate impact. We have also been listed on the Euronext Vigeo-Eiris Eurozone 120 indices since 2015 and on the Europe 120 since December 2018, which distinguish the best-performing companies in over 300 environmental, social and governance indicators.

  • European Business Awards

    We won the National Champion and Ruban d’Honneur awards in 2016 in the “Environmental and Corporate Sustainability” category for our strategy in fighting food waste.

  • Ethical Corporation

    Ethical Corporation awarded us an honourable mention in the “Most Effective Domestic Community Investment” category for our work in fighting food waste in 2016.

  • FINANCIAL TIMES/STATISTA

    Our progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been recognised by our presence in European Climate Leaders 2021, published by the Financial Times and Statista. The survey assesses the reduction of GHG emissions by European companies between 2014 and 2019, with the figures weighted relative to revenue. In our case, the drop was 10.8%.

  • FOOD & RETAIL

    Biedronka received the Food & Retail award in the “Retail” category from the editors of the magazine Rynek Spożywczy and websites portalspozywczy.pl, dlahandlu.pl and horectrends.pl

  • FTSE Russel

    Since 2016 we have been included in the FTSE4Good Europe Index and FTSE4Good Developed Index. In 2018 we were also included in the FTSE4Good Developed Minimum Variance. The FTSE4Good series was created by the FTSE Russel Indices and identifies the companies that best manage sustainability risks through commitments and activities in the development of their businesses.

  • GLOBAL CHILD FORUM

    In 2019 we were recognised as a “Leader” by the Global Child Forum, listed 4th in this European ranking that assesses companies with the best practices implemented concerning children’s rights.

  • HEALTHY WORKPLACE

    The Portuguese Psychologists Association recognised the Group as one of the organisations with the healthiest workplaces in Portugal.

  • ISS ESG

    Since 2012 we have been evaluated by ISS, one of the world’s leading rating agencies dedicated to sustainable investment. Each company is analysed based on around 100 social, environmental and governance performance indicators. In 2017 and 2019, we achieved “Prime” status, a level that distinguishes leading companies in their sector.

  • JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PORTUGAL

    The Group received the Founder Award in 2015, recognising its role in founding and promoting the institution’s success since it was created in Portugal in 2005.

  • NATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY

    Our integrated strategy for fighting food waste was distinguished in the first edition of the National Sustainability Award in the “Circular Economy” category. In 2021, the Juliana project was awarded first prize in the “Sustainability Communication” category, and Pingo Doce logistics won the “Decarbonisation” category. This initiative is promoted by Jornal de Negócios newspaper in partnership with consulting firm Deloitte, under the patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic.

  • Sustainable Production, Responsible Consumption

    Pingo Doce was the first food retailer in Portugal to receive the “Sustainable Production, Responsible Consumption” Seal, a distinction awarded by the National Commission to Combat Food Waste to organizations that promote initiatives to combat food waste in line with the strategic objectives of the National Strategy to Combat Food Waste, prevent, reduce or monitor.

  • POLITYKA CSR

    Jeronimo Martins Polska received the Golden Leaf CSR 2021 from Polityka magazine, a distinction awarded to companies that pursue sustainable development and socially responsible policies. The Company also received the “Good Practice Award” for its programme to support small Polish producers, which added around 200 products from 140 new local suppliers to Biedronka’s offering. Except for 2020, Jeronimo Martins Polska has been distinguished at the Polityka awards since 2015.

  • Lean & Green

    Lean & Green distinguished Pingo Doce with three stars and Biedronka with one star for cutting greenhouse gas emissions associated with logistics. Compared to 2017, Pingo Doce reduced by more than 40% in 2021, and Biedronka achieved a decrease of 20% in 2020.

  • Morgan Stanley Capital International

    We are listed on the MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders and MSCI ACWI SRI indices, which represent high-performing companies in social, environmental and governance areas. In 2021, the Group scored an ‘A’ (the highest score is ‘AAA’).

  • Responsible Business

    This organisation distinguished two initiatives of Jeronimo Martins Polska’s social responsibility area in 2015: “Young designers for Biedronka” and “Biedronka and well-known designers for DKMS Foundation”.

  • Stoxx Index

    We are listed on the STOXX ESG and STOXX Sustainability indices, more specifically the STOXX Global ESG Environmental Leaders index, the STOXX Europe Sustainability index and the EURO STOXX Sustainability index, which represent the world’s leading companies in social, environmental and governance best practices.

  • Sustainalytics

    In January 2023, Jerónimo Martins received an ESG Risk Rating de 14.1* and was assessed by Morningstar Sustainalytics to be at low risk of experiencing material financial impacts from environmental, social and governance factors.
